Employee Spotlight: Galen Cloughly, Chef and Dietary Manager

We are pleased to welcome Galen Cloughly, certified Executive Chef and Dietary Manager at Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit Assisted Living | Memory Care.

Galen became a certified executive chef in 1999, a certified dietary manager in 2017, and became a Serve Safe Certified Instructor in 2014. Previously, he received an Associate of Arts degree in Hospitality Management. In 2004, Galen was named Restaurants & Institutions Magazine’s Innovator of the Year.

When Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit opens in late November, Galen says he is looking forward to “providing food and nutrition for our residents that will bring back memories of the comforts of home.”

While Galen will be personally preparing many of the meals enjoyed by the residents of Cross Creek, he will also be in charge of hand-crafting menus that will be based on resident preferences, seasonal favorites and fresh, local ingredients. These menus will also be reviewed by our Registered Dietician to ensure that our meals meet top nutrition standards.

Galen strives to meet the needs and special requests of all of our residents while making the food taste wonderful. He also emphasizes variety and tradition while planning out the menus. Since Cross Creek only has 50 units, Galen finds it the perfect size for interacting with residents and getting to know each one’s story.

Galen believes the most rewarding aspect of his job is simply “the smiles on faces and twinkles in eyes when [he] is serving food.”
