Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit FAQs

Cross Creek at Lee’s Summit, a free-standing memory care project, is now being constructed in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Below are answers to frequently asked questions about the upcoming community.

  1. Is the community safe and secure?

Our residents’ security is our number one priority. All exterior doors of Cross Creek will be on an electronic locking system and will remain locked at all times. A key fob system will only allow entrance to staff and approved family members. Exterior security cameras, controlled and monitored access, audible alarms and community space sensors will serve to alert staff if any resident is in a situation where they may need assistance. 24-hour licensed nurses are on site at all times to provide support when needed and to monitor all activity at the entrances and exits of the building.   1. What kind of activities would my loved one be able to take part in?

Days at Cross Creek will be filled with variety. Our Recreation Therapist, Mary Beth Kaup, will craft activity schedules that stimulate long-term memory, increase story-sharing and promote exercise and movement. Some examples include sensory activities using props, arts and crafts that will help residents exercise dexterity while allowing them to be creative and productive, and musical activities that will promote participation, reminiscing and laughter. In addition to this, the Recreation Therapist will work with each resident and their family to create an activity profile based on their favorite hobbies, their lifelong habits and their personal preferences.


  1. How is the staff trained for memory care?

Individuals with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia require a different type of care from traditional assisted living residents. Cross Creek’s care staff will specialize in resident-centered care through the Dementia Live and Compassionate Touch programs.  Every staff member will receive training in how to diffuse tension-filled situations, promote comfort and safety, and interact with residents with understanding and patience.


  1. Are there visiting hours?

There are no set visiting hours at Cross Creek. We strive to create a home-like atmosphere, and residents will be encouraged to invite their family members to visit at any time.


  1. How is medication managed at Cross Creek?

To ensure residents’ safety and well-being, Cross Creek’s care staff will retain all resident medication, including over-the-counter medications, and will facilitate the administration of all medications upon admission to Cross Creek. Medications will be administered by Cross Creek’s 24-hour licensed nursing staff.


  1. How much assistance will be provided to my loved one?

Cross Creek will offer individualized resources to assist residents and their families as they navigate the challenges of transitioning to life in their new home. We seek to enrich residents’ lives while facilitating supported independence so that residents can continue doing the things they love. The Director of Nursing will work with each family to craft a personalized care plan that will meet each resident’s personal health needs while maintaining comfort and dignity.
